• Know Your Rights as a Consumer: Empowerment Through Understanding

The right to request no calls at your workplace.

The right to receive contact in writing only upon request.

The right to know the original creditor's name and address if different from the current creditor.

The right to dispute the bill in writing or request additional information.

The right to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of past due debt.

The right to know the exact amount of your bill, including a breakdown of any fees, charges, or interest added to the original charged-off amount.

Familiarize yourself with your state's statutes, as they vary widely by state and type of bill. While the statute of limitations may prevent civil court action, this does not absolve you of the debt and can still affect your credit report for seven years.

Be aware of additional protections provided by state laws and the FDCPA. Take the time to review any relevant information.
